Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
- Do you do that HDR thing?
-
Absolutely not! I repeat absolutely not! We are a professional photography company. From the disciplined days of film to the digital era we are in now, we are masters in our craft. Daniel Newcomb holds an AS degree in commercial applied photography as well as an AA in fine art. Coming from the era of film to digital we have a complex understanding of photography and we can create images of light, art, and passion. HDR photography should never be in a professional photographer's wheelhouse. It belongs on an iPhone for your family snapshots. If you have hired an HDR amateur before then you have hired a computer to take snapshots for you, not photographs.
- How do you create those dramatic images?
-
It's simple we bring lighting! Well, I guess it's not that simple. We also bring over 25 years of understanding photography. As we know we have available light all around us, but as a photographer, our job is to also create images with light and that's just we do. It can take anywhere from one to two hours to light a room. We bring an arsenal of tungsten and strobe lights to create the fine-crafted images you see in our portfolio.
- How do you charge for your services?
-
We work off a shot rate that we have developed over the last 25 years. We do not bill off of time but rather a shot list. We have two basic packages a 3-4 interiors plus front and rear elevations if needed, and an 8 interior images package plus front and rear elevations. How long does this take all depends on the project. We stay until the images are complete. We work on the skill set of quality over quantity! Email us your project details and a shot list for an estimate.
- How soon should we book our shoot?
-
We are a busy crew, and for good reason, but at times we can fit you in for a last-minute shoot while other times we are booked a few weeks or months out. It's always recommended to reserve your shoot dates with a deposit ASAP.
- Do you travel?
-
Yes, we do! We shoot all across the US as well as the rest of the world. No destination is too far or remote.
- How long is the typical turn around?
-
It is usually under a week unless we are swamped. If you're on a deadline just let us know and we can accommodate you.
- Do you have a cancellation policy?
-
Yes, we do. We know that delays can happen in this business. Deposits are transferred to the next booked dates but are not refundable.
How We Create
We are a professional interior design & architectural photography company and have been specializing in this field for 25+ years. From the disciplined days of film to the digital era we are in now, we are masters in our craft. The reason we state this is, like in every business, you have the fly-by-night photo companies without business ethics and/or business outlines. These "jack of all trades" HDR-shooters photograph everything from weddings to product photography and consider themselves professional architectural & interior design shooters with no know-how on how to truly capture the nuanced and specific vision that your designs and architecture demand.
Our company has placed our skills into this single field of photography and specialize in this field, so our work stays focused on precisely what you need photographed.
I want to explain a bit about how we work. I don't know what photography companies you have hired in the past, but we do things differently here. In a one-day shoot we create 8 fine-crafted interior images and 3-4 exteriors if needed (various angles of the front and rear elevations). We work on the skill set of quality over quantity. We do not walk around shooting 20-30 HDR images of, let's say for example, the living room and then send you hundreds of compressed low-quality JPEG files at the end of a photoshoot in hopes that a computer algorithm caught and mashed together a good enough shot. We are far more skilled and respectful in our business.
We like to do a walk-through with you on the morning of the shoot and outline the shooting schedule. Then, together, we determine what angles work and what does not and elaborate on why. This way we don't waste time shooting in hopes that we capture a great image. We instead know we will create excellent images by taking our time to analyze, craft, and meticulously light 8 masterful images.
At the end of the shoot, you will receive finished high-quality images with exquisitely crafted lighting. I always say "We don't take pictures. We create images."
Our lighting techniques are also very involved. It can take 1-2 hours to light and style a room. We have the insight into how light and shadows manifest the best mood and essence a room has to offer. You take great care in how you plan, build, and design each and every room. We understand and honor this process, and it reflects in our own careful and considerate photographic process. Please have a look at my web page and review my lighting and composition skills compared to my competitors. You surely will notice a difference.
Our company is granted access to the top homeowners in this industry for a reason (see our web page to see The Tommy Hilfiger Estate, Hard Rock Hotels, Kenny Rogers Estate, and many more). Our technical and professional know-how, our final images, and our fun relaxing moods that we bring to the shoot help create the images that will sell your product and ensure you’re satisfied.
Photography is not just a job to us, it is our passion, and we are gifted to be able to do what we love for a living. Let us help bring your images up to the quality of work that you produce!
